It is that time of year again at Bethel Park. It is Homecoming weekend, and there has been a fervor of excitement. Like past years, there will be an abundance of activities that one can enjoy throughout the weekend. This includes the annual Homecoming parade, game, and dance.
The annual Homecoming Parade will be held on Friday, September 27th at 6 p.m. The participants in the parade include the clubs of Bethel Park, and various organizations throughout the municipality.
One of the clubs that will be participating in the parade is SGA. Senior Katie Zilcosky, a member of SGA, details their plans for the homecoming parade.
Zilcosky said, “We have some convertibles, with all of the Homecoming court members in a convertible. We also have some alumni walking with us in the parade. As well, there will be some military veterans in the parade, as well as all of the cheerleaders and the magician (who will also be performing at the homecoming dance). Overall, it will be just as great of a parade as ever.”
Following the parade, the Bethel Park Varsity Football team will be playing a much anticipated game against Peters Township. The Black Hawks are coming in with a 3-1 record and are hot off a win last week against Canon Mac. The Indians are coming to Bethel Park with a 2-2 record but are feeling confident after a substantial win last week against Shaler.
However, there is more than just the game on Friday night. There will be the annual half time show, that includes a special display from the Bethel Park High School Marching Band. Chase Keady, a senior in the drumline, told of some of the plans the band has for Friday night.
Keady said, “We’re playing a new song, it is a Michael Buble song, and I think everybody is going to enjoy it. We’re also playing our normal show.”
The next day, the Homecoming Dance will be held at the high school and starts at 7:30 p.m. The second year in the new school, the dance will have many of the same new features from last year. But brand new this year, however, is the Twitter feed (#bphc13) that will be running throughout the dance and displayed on the kiosks and on the projector screens in the gymnasium.
All in all, it will be an eventful weekend.
