“Join BP DECA” signs hung throughout the hallways during the month of September. Over 100 kids listened to the message on that sign, reaching the membership goal set by the State.
As for the rest of the student body and even some teachers, the organization of DECA remains a mystery.
DECA is a business club that is made up of marketing class students. Intro to Marketing, Marketing Theory, Marketing Tech., and Diversified Occupations are the classes offered at BP that are incorporated with DECA.
At a DECA conference, students compete with other students from different schools at the district and state levels. They take a 100 question test, followed by a role play with a judge, which is much like a job interview.
The teacher sponsor for this club is marketing teacher, Mrs. Smoller. She is currently on maternity leave, but her and substitute teacher, Mr. Tsangaris, will be at all conferences.
The District Conference already took place, and now those who placed are eagerly awaiting the State Conference Feb. 27- March 1 in Hershey, PA!
In order to help fund the trip, DECA is currently selling short and long sleeve orange tie dye t-shirts. The shirts feature the hawk logo on the front. Order forms are available at: http://www.bpsd.org/protected/ArticleView.aspx?iid=6GG2BI2&dasi=3IY0. You can order online at [email protected].
