Starting on March 4, Starbucks will be removing 13 drinks from their menu in order to simplify it.
According to a statement made by Starbucks, they will be removing less popular drinks in order to focus on perfecting a smaller menu.
They claim that the drinks they are removing are either not popular enough, too hard to make, or too similar to other menu items. They additionally state that the removal of drinks will reduce wait times, improve quality, and help to position them with their identity as a coffee company.
So which drinks are on the chopping block? The drinks being removed next month include:
- Iced Matcha lemonade
- Espresso Frappuccino
- Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino
- Java Chip Frappuccino
- White Chocolate Mocha Frappuccino
- Chai Crème Frappuccino
- Double Chocolaty Chip Crème Frappuccino
- Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino
- White Chocolate Crème Frappuccino
- Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino
- Royal English Breakfast Latte
- Honey Almondmilk Flat White
- White Hot Chocolate
That seems like a lot of drinks, right? While some of the items are relatively unheard of to the general public, some people think very popular items are being removed. Take, for example, the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Crème Frappuccino. Many think that this drink is one of the most popular and iconic drinks that Starbucks has to offer.
But it’s not.
The drink that they are most likely thinking of is the Caramel Ribbon Crunch Frappuccino. What’s the difference? The regular variant has coffee in it, and the crème variant does not. The regular version is staying on the menu, and the crème version can most likely be made if the customer asked for no coffee in their drink.
So it seems as if Starbucks is right. That drink is incredibly similar to another, and the crème version is simply not as popular. Most of the Frappuccino’s being eliminated have a non-crème variant, so the drinks are not going to disappear.
But some are still not happy with the change.
In reference to the Caffè Vanilla Frappuccino, Allison Wolling, a senior here at BPHS, says, “I’m sad and really upset. That was my favorite drink, and it was the only thing I liked at Starbucks, besides the chocolate cake pops.”
So while that drink may have alternates, it was still a favorite among the customers, and it will be missed.
If any of the drinks listed sound good, make sure to give them a try before March 4, arrives, and they (kind of) go away.
