Pittsburgh hosts Marathon Weekend
On Sunday, May 7, over 40,000 excited participants gathered in the city of Pittsburgh to celebrate the annual Dicks’ Pittsburgh Marathon with bright smiles and intense energy.
Participants from over 20 different countries came together to support the runners by holding signs, handing out Gatorade, dancing on the street, and cheering for the cause. Despite the rainy start, the sun came out and shone down on the people of Pittsburgh as the races continued throughout the day.
Along with the Dick’s sponsored Pittsburgh Marathon, a long list of other events take place during the marathon weekend such as the 5K, the Kid’s Marathon, a Toddler Trot, a Pet Walk, a Relay Race, and a Half-Marathon for people of all ages to participate in throughout the race weekend. These are great opportunities to get involved in and help raise money for a charity of your choosing.
The races started around 7 AM and continued throughout the day as participants crossed the finish line.
Over 30,000 friends and family cheered along the race path and came to support their city and the participants.
This year, Dicks Sporting Goods announced that over $1,300,000 was raised by participants for both local and national charities, making this year the biggest and most successful race ever! That money was raised by the individual participants who ran for their causes with smiles on their faces.
Whether you’re a runner, a walker, a volunteer, or someone showing their pride on the sidelines, the Pittsburgh Marathon is a terrific event to be involved in. This year’s race is going down in history as the city was filled with joyous faces after weeks of hard work and preparation.
