Cold weather pushes spring fishing back

The month is April, weather is warming up to the mid 60s, and fishing season is upon us.

However, this is not the case this year for the Pittsburgh area. With these drastically cold temperatures, our so-called “spring” has brought fishing to a halt.

“You got to go with slow moving baits and tackle. With the water being this cold, fish become really lethargic in efforts to conserve energy,” said amateur fisherman Jake Dowell, when asked how he approaches the waters with these climate changes.

April 14 will mark the opening day for trout fishing in Pennsylvania. Even though the water and outside air will be cool, the fishing will be spot on. With that being said, don’t be afraid to bundle up and go out to enjoy nature with a little fishing adventure. Just remember, don’t forget your fishing license.
