Tips to overcome test anxiety
Every student has experienced it at one point or another: test anxiety. Some people only get it over their exams; others, when they don’t feel ready. Some students experience anxiety over every test they take. Don’t worry, there are some things you can do to relieve your anxiety.
1. First and foremost, developing good study habits so you can feel confident you know the material will help significantly. Whenever you feel yourself start to overthink, instead focus on the material and go over what you’ve studied in your head.
2. It is important to avoid cramming everything in right before the test. This actually will make it harder for you to remember things correctly and the material will become jumbled.
3. Avoid talking to your peers about the test. They may impose their own negative thoughts or doubts upon you.
4. Remember to get a good night’s sleep and eat a good breakfast to improve your brain function and memory. Reading over notes before you sleep will also improve your memory.
5. Ask your teacher if you can chew gum or bring a snack during the test to reduce your stress. Make sure to avoid sugar which will worsen any stress you may already be feeling.
Overall, just relax and try your best on every test you take.
