You may have noticed a new physics teacher since the famous Mrs. Ruby has left the hallways of Bethel Park High School.
Mrs. Durmis grew up in the rural area of Greensburg, Pennsylvania. She started off by teaching at Westmoreland Christian Academy, then moved on to Wilson Christian Academy.
Mrs. Durmis then decided it was time to test the system, and she got jobs at Perry High School and Brashear High School; both of these schools were quite the challenge for her in her teaching career because she didn’t feel at home in the inner city schools.
Mrs Durmis is SO excited to be here in Bethel Park with the well rounded group of students and the awesome teaching staff we have. “I love working here in Bethel, I can say I am happy to go to work every morning when I get up”.
The environment of Bethel Park was the change Mrs. Durmis needed in her life. “Bethel’s staff and teachers are extremely supportive and it’s a great high school. The students care about their futures and are a great pleasure to teach.”
When Mrs. Durmis was in high school, her math teacher dared her to take the AP Physics class, she gladly accepted. During her AP Physics class, she passed with flying colors with help from her teacher Mrs. Harper.
After, she took the Honors Physics II class and decided that’s what she wanted to go to college for. In her final years of college, Mrs. Durmis decided that she needed a plan with her degree in physics so she decided it was time to get a degree in teaching as well.
In her spare time, Mrs. Durmis loves to play the trumpet.
Her favorite sport is lacrosse. Her favorite subject is math, preferably calculus. Mrs. Durmis’ favorite color in the world is red. Her favorite movies are all of the Batman movies ever made. She has great taste in music, and her favorite bands are Coheed and Cambria and Muse.
The biggest influence in her life has always been her mother.
Her plans for the future would be to get her PhD in Instructional Technology from Duquesne.
Mrs. Durmis is a permanently hired teacher here at Bethel Park and is absolutely loving every second here in our home town of Bethel Park.
