Should Valentine’s Day be considered a real holiday?
The famous holiday of love and affection, better known as Valentine’s Day, is celebrated on February 14th by couples across the globe. However, should it really be considered as a holiday?
Shouldn’t one show their love and affection to their partner every day of the year, instead of just one?
Or is it nice to have an entire day set on just focusing on each other?
Students at BPHS give their opinion on the love-struck day.
Junior student Ashley Mesta said, “I think it should be a celebrated holiday; couples are able to celebrate the love they have, but you should do that every day.”
Junior Jason Bilsky replied, “It’s a day to show someone that you love them, so yeah, definitely.”
Both Mesta and Bilsky agree on the celebration of Valentine’s Day and how it relates to them now; however, junior student Christy Heslop has a different view on the holiday.
Heslop said, “Valentine’s Day is fun when you are little. It’s fun for kids when they get to decorate shoe boxes and give out Valentines in school.”
Before making this day full of stress and anxiety, trying to find your significant other the perfect present or make reservations at the most extravagant restaurant, Valentine’s Day used to be all about having fun with friends and maybe receiving a little love note from your third or fourth grade crush.
Despite the common belief that Valentine’s Day is a just a holiday or a day for couples to celebrate, spend it with your friends or family. Go to the movies, grab some pizza, or hangout at the park. Enjoy the day, celebrate it with the ones you love.
