Starbucks holiday cups causing unnecessary controversy
Every year, Starbucks always has a holiday cup that really lets you know that the Holidays have arrived. Usually, pictures of snowflakes and Christmas trees are printed on the red cup, but this year, they decided to just have the red cup, and people are NOT happy.
Recently, a former Pastor by the name of Joshua Feuerstein posted a video on YouTube explaining his disappointment with Starbucks, and how they’re letting down the Christian community.
He said, “We become so open minded that our brains are literally falling out of our head.”
First of all, open mindedness is not a bad thing, and while I agree with this at a certain stand point, I also think that there are very many smart, open minded individuals in this world.
He later goes on to say, “Do you realize that Starbucks wanted to take Christ, and Christmas off of their brand new cups, that’s why they’re just plain red.”
Okay, now we’re overreacting a little, don’t you think? Sure, everyone likes a little décor on their Holiday cups, but let’s remind ourselves that these are cardboard cups used to hold coffee. It is simply, a cup. You can’t wash them. You can’t really reuse them.
So why are we getting so offended? Because Jesus isn’t on the cup? Because Starbucks employees aren’t allowed to wish their customers a Merry Christmas? Come on guys, there are more important things in this world to worry about, rather than what kind of cup your coffee comes in and what it does/doesn’t represent.
Near the end of the video, Feuerstein talks about what he as a person did to offend the popular coffee company, by wearing his Jesus Christ shirt, and carrying a gun, since the corporation “hates the Second Amendment.” But what does the Second Amendment have anything to do with hating Christmas?
In fact, what does changing a cup’s design have anything to do with hating Christmas?
People are dying. War is happening. People are poverty stricken, jobless, sick with disease, etc., and all we as Americans and Christians can worry about is a cup?
Even Trump has put his two-cents in this controversy calling for a boycott of Starbucks.
Feuerstein decided, instead of boycotting Starbucks, he wants to “start a movement,” and challenge everyone to go into Starbucks, and when they ask for your name, tell them it’s “Merry Christmas.”
So basically, instead of boycotting the company, you want everyone to buy more, just so they can pretend their name is “Merry Christmas.” Makes a lot of sense, right?
Well I know one thing’s for sure, I got my ticket for the long way round, and it’s out of this craziness.
