Album of the Week: Bombs Away

Album: Bombs Away

Artist: Sheppard

Release Date: July 11, 2014

I’m sure there’s a certain song that comes to mind when someone shouts, “Geronimo!” This new-found band is to thank for such a hit.

Bombs Away is this Australian band’s hit, following their self-titled EP Sheppard.

Maybe you’ve heard of Sheppard, maybe you haven’t, so here’s a run down. The band consists of three siblings and three friends, and they hail from Brisbane. The band’s genre is most easily classified as indie pop, with a light and happy vibe.

The top track “Geronimo” spent three weeks at the top of the charts, after knocking Pharrel’s “Happy” out of first.

Along with their indie pop, the band branched out to other genres, such as synthpop, and glam-rock.

Though the efforts to branch away from their comfort zone aren’t the most groundbreaking in those genres, the album shows diversity and sets the band up for a bright future.

My favorite tracks include “Geronimo” and “Something’s Missing.”

Sheppard has something for everyone and play to their strengths, which is why it is easy to give this fun-loving album a 4 out of 5 stars.
