Columbus, Ohio natives Twenty One Pilots are one of the alternative music scenes fastest growing bands. The band, formed in 2009 by lead vocalist Tyler Joseph, has been climbing to mainstream popularity over the course of 2013.
The musical style of Twenty One Pilots is very unique: piano and synthesizer driven treble combined with fantastic drumming rhythm over clean vocals and rapping. Vocalist Tyler Joseph states that the lyrics are poetry based, so whenever he needs to fit all the lyrics of the poem into the song, he raps them.
The band released two albums themselves, Twenty One Pilots in 2009 and Regional at Best in 2011, before signing to famous independent music label Fueled by Ramen. Their first release with Fueled by Ramen, titled Vessel, was produced by Greg Wells and debuted at #58 on the Billboard Top 200 charts.
The band has toured nationally since the release of the record. The have toured with Neon Trees and Walk the Moon. Also, they opened for Fall Out Boy on their national Save Rock and Roll tour.
Additionally, Greg Wells, the producer of Vessel, has stated on several occasions that “big things” are coming for Twenty One Pilots.
