Recent radio superstar, Ed Sheeran, has just began his first US tour. Ed has gained success from his hit single “The A Team”.
With the whole U.K. craze, Ed fits right in. Girls all around the world wearing Union Jack shirts and drooling over One Direction have claimed Ed Sheeran as their new favorite artist.
When Ed announced his tour back in November, many around the area were ecstatic to see he was coming to Stage AE, including myself. Tickets for the show sold out in under a minute.
January 28th finally rolled around, the day of the show. Girls waited on the wet concrete in the drizzling rain for six hours to get as close to the stage as possible. You could feel the excitement in the theater as we all waited for Ed to take the stage.
His two opening acts, Foy Vance and The Rizzlekicks, fit in with his British theme. Foy played acoustic music with Irish folk roots much like Ed, and the Rizzlekicks brought a British hip hop experience to the concert. Both opening acts get two big thumbs up.
As soon as Ed came out he was greeted with a plethora of screams from the girls in the theater. He opened with one of the hits on his album, “Give Me Love”, and ended with his chart topper, “The A Team”.
The concert was filled with the songs from his debut album, +. Ed even sported some Pittsburgh pride when he threw a few lines of “Black and Yellow” into the bridge of his song “The City”.
Ed put on a fantastic show, even though most of the time it was just him and his guitar on stage. He managed to sprinkle some hip hop notes into his originally acoustic songs, and he wowed the crowd with the fifteen minute full version of his song “You Need Me, I Don’t Need You”.
Ed’s debut tour put on a great show, and I look forward to his next visit to Pittsburgh, PA.
