On Wednesday, January 23, 2013, the ska band Reel Big Fish put on an absolutely fantastic, sold out show at the Altar Bar at 1620 Penn Ave.
The opening act performed was performed by Dan P. Dan P. is an American musician famous from co-founding the ska band Mu330. Dan P. played solo on the stage, which may have made it rougher on him, but he still performed a fantastic show.
The next Band that played was The Pilfers. The Pilfers are an American ska band formed in 1997 when the ex-vocalist of The Toasters Coolie Ranx and the vocalist of The Pietasters Steve Jackson decided to join the former trombonist of Bim Skala Bim Vinney Nobile, bassist Anna Milat-Meyer, drummer James Blanck, and finally guitarist Nick Bacon of The Erratics.
The Pilfers played a great set which involved Coolie Ranx coming down into the audience, dancing and singing with the attendants of the show.
Finally, the moment everyone was waiting for that night, Reel Big Fish, an American ska band from Huntington Beach California, took the stage.
The band has gained a ton of mainstream attention since their 1997 smash hit “Sell Out”.
The band started their 22 song set list off with their song from their album Candy Coated Fury, “Everyone Else Is an ***ole”, and finished an amazing encore with their cover of the song “Take on Me”.
The band played a few songs from their newest album Candy Coated Fury such as “Don’t Stop Skankin” and “Your Girlfriend Sucks”. They also played some of their hit songs such as ” Sell Out”, “Everything Sucks”, “Beer”, and “Skatanic”.
Reel Big Fish performed one of the best shows to hit Pittsburgh in a long time. The aura of the crowd was unbelievable, and the energy that radiated from all of the attendants was remarkable; overall this show was a great way to start the beginning of a new year for the people of Pittsburgh.
