With a tie against Moon on Saturday, Oct. 17, the Lady Hawks soccer team qualified for the playoffs. This is their first run since 2014.
The Lady Hawks will play No. 5 seed North Allegheny in the first round of the WPIAL playoffs on Monday, Oct. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at North Allegheny High School.
At 6-4-2, the team experienced many ups and downs throughout the season but were able to make it count when it mattered most.
In their first game of the season, the girls lost to Mt. Lebanon in overtime 3-2. In their next contest, they lost to Peters 3-0. After starting the season 0-2, they were able to rebound with a big win over Canon Mac 3-0. However, the glory of victory only lasted a short while as they lost to USC in the following game, 2-1.
The middle of the season was very important, and they knew they had to step it up. The team battled against Moon on the 28th and beat them 2-1 in overtime. They tied with Canon Mac in their next game but then followed that up with a huge win in a redemption match against Mt. Lebanon, 2-0.
The final games were critical as they faced off against Peters, USC, Baldwin, and Moon. The girls lost to Peters by a score of 3-0. However, they showed determination as they beat USC 2-1 in two overtimes.
Due to COVID-19 concerns, Bethel had to play back-to-back games against Baldwin in which they were able to win both games by scores of 1-0 and 2-0.
In the final game, the team tied with Moon with a score of 2-2.
When asked about the season, juniors Julie Heh and Macy Mathias said: “It was a very exciting season and we look forward to playoffs. We still have a long way to go.”
