Lady Hawks stand in line during the National Anthem before their game against Peters on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

The girls varsity soccer team indeed pulverized the Lady Blue Devils on Saturday, winning 5-1.

Bethel Park’s goal was to end a streak of ties they had with Mount Lebanon their past two games.

Sophomore Lily Gaston scored two goals in the match. The first spectacular shot was just over five minutes into the match, assisted by Macy Mathias. Gaston’s second goal was a header into the net with under three minutes left in the match.

Lily Gaston wasn’t the only person who scored a brace; senior Teagan Mehalko also put two in the back of the net. In the seventh minute, she dribbled to the endline and rocketed the ball past the keeper into the net. Meghan Mathias assisted Mehalko’s second goal with 11 minutes left in the match.

Senior Olivia Schram scored a goal with less than one minute in the match. Meghan Mathias attempted to score and drew out the goalie but was unsuccessful. However, the rebound landed at Schram’s feet and she hit one in the net.

The JV team lost 2-1 against Mt. Lebanon.

On Monday, the girls play against Upper Saint Clair at home. Junior varsity plays first at 6 p.m. and varsity follows at 7:30. Bethel Park hopes this win was the lift they need to start a winning streak and make it into the playoffs. This is their year!!! Good luck, Hawks!!
