As the calendar turns to May, the community has an opportunity to make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer.
This annual initiative, organized by the Smiles From Sean Project, heads into its sixth year with a dedicated coin drive to raise awareness and funds for brain tumor research and support during Brain Tumor Awareness Month.
The upcoming collection period is scheduled from May 5 to May 9, targeting high school classes across the district.
Participating classrooms will have coin jugs, placed in homerooms to encourage student involvement and generosity.
This tradition not only sustains the spirit of giving but also educates others about the importance of community support in fighting against serious health issues.
To motivate participation, a friendly competition is set in motion, where the teacher whose class gathers the highest total in donations will be rewarded with a special treat for their students.
Additionally, recognition will be given to the first and second-place winners with the most contributions throughout the allotted time.
To keep the competition in order, the Interact Club, a dedicated group within the school community, will oversee the distribution of the coin jugs, making sure that each classroom is prepared for the collection period.
Participation is voluntary, and educators interested in contributing to this cause are encouraged to respond quickly to facilitate the distribution process.
This collective effort truly reveals the community’s compassion and resilience,
The initiative shows that even small contributions can help bring hope and support to children and families navigating the challenges of childhood cancer.
