Crowds, Police stand off after curfew in Baltimore

Protesters in Baltimore defied a citywide curfew, to which police responded with smoke canisters and pepper balls in an attempt to disperse and scatter the crowd.

When interviewed, Baltimore Police Commissioner Anthony Batts said, “Curfew is, in fact, working, the city is stable. We’d like to keep it that way.” Various other authorities said that the curfew had been largely successful, with 10 arrests made in one night.

Police used bullhorns to remind protesters of the curfew, which is set to last until 5 a.m., with certain exceptions such as going to or from work or medical emergencies.

Over 2,000 Maryland National Guardsmen were sent to Baltimore after Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared a state of emergency.

Also, Baltimore Public Schools have since reopened after closing due to the violence.
