Seven time consecutive Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong, was recently disqualified from competing in the sport of cycling, permanently.
For years, Armstrong denied using performance enhancing drugs, until recently. In an interview with Oprah, which was aired on January 17, 2013, Lance Armstrong admitted to the use of performance enhancing drugs. Unfortunately, for the sport of professional cycling, an incident of this magnitude wasn’t uncovered sooner.
Sufficient evidence indicates this whole incident dates back to August 1998. During that time period, Armstrong in fact, did take performance enhancing drugs, and unfortunately distributed them as well. Luckily for Lance Armstrong, he was able to live a lavish lifestyle, making tons of money due to professional cycling. Simultaneously to making money cycling, Lance Armstrong cheated to do it. He is a disgrace to all professional cyclists and in this case, justice must be served.
Aside from being unable to return to cycling, Lance Armstrong should be sued by the sport and possibly face jail time. Just because he was a superstar cyclist, doesn’t mean he should get off with a minimal punishment. If an everyday citizen were to pull off something such as Lance, they would be fired, effective immediately. And in some cases, they would even face charges or jail time.
Personally, to make things right, Lance Armstrong should donate an insurmountable amount of his falsely earned money to help better the sport of cycling, especially after he completely trashed everything the sport stands for, by cheating to win. If not, at least donate it to cancer research, due to his past with the disease. Reason being, Armstrong earned his millions by cheating, and that should all be taken away, unless he does do something beneficial for those who deserve it.
