From the Desk of Dr. J: Added Security

Many students and faculty had seen the extra security of late. However, it is not known why there is security or what faculty has done. These are very important facts to know when you are attending a school, and they are now answered.

“Due to some damage in the restroom at the end of last school year, I requested two additional security guards to assist at the start of this school year,” Dr. J said. “In addition, we were granted two extra security guards after we encountered a non-credible threat [on October 6 of this school year].”

School threats have become a problem in the country, especially around here. The week of October 6, there were three other school districts that encountered threats and/or ordered evacuations. The most important one, however, was on April 9, 2014 in Murrysville, where Alex Hribal stabbed 21 students and one security guard. This was the primary cause in western PA for added security  in schools.

“Our staff has also undergone a training with regard to security and this has raised everyone’s level of awareness,” Dr. J said.

Being safe and secure is very important to all of us. We want to feel this every day when we go to school. This can help relationships, grades, and privacy.

“A situation can occur any day at any school. Students should continue to talk to staff members about safety issues they are aware about,” Dr. J said. “Additional security guards are just another set of eyes and ears to keep the school safe.”

“School security will remain a first priority for our school.”

We all know communication is important, and is much more important when a security problem arises. These added security guards will help with protection and ease students through when there is a problem.

It is not known how long they will stay,  but added security is another thing that the school has put to protect us better.
